Data Sharing

To operate the platform effectively, we share some data with trusted service providers who support website and application functions. When you opt in to advertising preferences, some visitor data may be shared with third parties for marketing purposes. This data excludes any sensitive or counseling session information.

For more details about data sharing and advertising practices, please refer to the relevant sections of this Privacy Policy.

How We Collect and Use Your Information

At LOL with Christ, we provide two main services: selling Christian products and offering subscription-based Biblical counseling. We collect and use your information differently depending on the service you use.

For Product Purchases:

  • When you buy items wristbands, or reflective and affirmation cards, we collect your name, shipping address, billing details, and payment information.
  • This information is used solely to process your order, communicate order status, handle customer service, and, with your permission, send promotional offers or updates.
  • We work with trusted third-party payment processors and shipping carriers to fulfill your order securely.
  • We never store full credit card details on our servers.

For Subscription-Based Biblical Counseling Services:

  • When you sign up for counseling, we collect personal information including your name, contact info, subscription details, and any information you share with your counselor.
  • Your counseling data is kept confidential and used only for providing counseling, managing your subscription, and improving our services.
  • Our counselors are trained in Biblical counseling and provide faith-based support rooted in Scripture. They are not licensed mental health professionals and do not diagnose or treat medical conditions.
  • We provide multiple session formats including secure chat, call, and video options to fit your needs.

Communication and Marketing:

  • With your consent, we may send you emails about new products, counseling offerings, updates, or special promotions.
  • You can unsubscribe or opt-out at any time.

Legal Basis for Processing:

  • We process your data to fulfill our contract with you (processing orders, delivering counseling), comply with legal obligations, and with your consent for marketing.
  • We also use data based on legitimate business interests like improving our services and maintaining security.

Location Data Processing
We process your IP address to determine your approximate location so we can personalize the platform for you. For example, we show relevant information based on your country and automatically fill in your state (if applicable) and country during onboarding.

We do not request or process exact location data such as GPS from your phone.

Emergency Contact Information
If you provide your address as part of your emergency contact information when starting counseling, we process it to comply with therapy regulations and ethical codes. This information may be used if your counselor believes you are in immediate danger. When filling out this information, we may use your approximate location to provide autocomplete suggestions for convenience.

Use of ReCAPTCHA Security Tool
Your rough location based on your IP address is also processed by ReCAPTCHA, a security tool we use to protect our site from malicious activity. For more details, please see the ReCAPTCHA Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Use of Artificial Intelligence and ChatBot Systems
We use Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, including Natural Language Understanding (NLU) algorithms and ChatBot systems, to enhance and improve our services. These tools help automate repetitive tasks, provide customer support, detect security risks, and assist counselors with managing and documenting sessions.

Our AI processing involves a mix of automated and manual review to ensure accuracy and fairness. To protect your privacy, we do not use any therapy-related data such as session content, journal entries, messages, or worksheets to train AI models unless you explicitly consent.

These technologies are designed to improve your experience and the quality of our services while safeguarding your personal information.

Section 2: Data Sharing

Why Do We Share Your Data?

At LOL with Christ, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. We only share your data when it is necessary to provide our services, comply with legal obligations, or support the operation of our platform. Here are the key reasons and ways we share your information:

  • With Trusted Service Providers:
We partner with carefully vetted third-party service providers who help us operate our platform and deliver our services. These providers only use your data as directed by us and must keep your information confidential and secure. Examples include:
    • Data Hosting and Storage: Secure cloud providers like Shopify or Amazon Web Services (AWS) that store our website, product, and subscription data.
    • Payment Processors: Companies such as Stripe that securely handle payments for our products and counseling subscriptions.
    • Technology Services: Tools that enable features like video, chat, or scheduling for counseling sessions.
    • Customer Support: Services that assist us in managing your requests, questions, and support needs.
    • Email Communication: Providers that help us send important updates, receipts, or notifications about your orders and counseling sessions.
    • Marketing and Advertising: Agencies that assist us in promoting our Christian products and counseling services to people who may benefit from them. These providers never receive personally identifiable counseling details.
    • Analytics and Reporting: Tools that help us understand how visitors use our website and services so we can improve your experience.
  • To Protect Our Platform and Users:
We may share data with security service providers to protect against fraud, abuse, and malicious activity on our site. This helps maintain a safe, trustworthy environment for everyone.
  • In the Event of Business Changes:
If LOL with Christ is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your data may be transferred as part of that process. We will notify you of any such change as required by law.

Special Note on Biblical Counseling Services

Because our counseling is virtual and faith-based, and not clinical therapy, we do not share your counseling session details, messages, or personal health information with third parties except as outlined here. Your communication with your counselor is private and confidential within the limits described in our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Data Shared with Counselors

When you sign up for counseling, we share necessary information with your chosen counselor to enable your sessions, such as your name, contact information, and subscription status. Counselors do not share your information beyond what is necessary to support your counseling relationship and platform operation.

Marketing and Advertising Transparency

If you opt-in to marketing communications, some information may be used to deliver personalized ads on third-party platforms. We do not share sensitive counseling information for advertising purposes. You can manage your marketing preferences or opt out at any time.

International and Legal Considerations

If you reside outside the country where LOL with Christ operates, your data may be transferred to servers or service providers in other countries. We take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your information during such transfers.

How You Can Control Your Data Sharing

You have choices about how your information is shared and used. You can:

  • Opt-out of marketing communications at any time.
  • Request information about what data we hold about you.
  • Contact us to correct or delete your data, within legal and operational limits.

Please contact us at info@lolwithchrist.com for any data privacy questions or requests.

Section 3
Data Retention, Erasure, and Exporting

How long do we retain your data?

At LOL with Christ, we respect your privacy and are committed to keeping your personal information only as long as necessary to provide you with quality Christian products and Biblical counseling services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

Because we offer both physical products through our Shopify-powered online store and subscription-based Biblical counseling services, the retention periods for your data vary based on the nature of your interactions with us.

Retention Periods Based on Service Type

1. Christian Products Purchasers (One-time or Direct Purchase):

·       We retain your personal and transactional data, including order details, payment information, shipping address, and communication history, for up to 3 years after your last purchase or interaction with our store.

·       This retention period enables us to provide you with customer support, handle any returns or disputes, maintain accurate records for tax and accounting purposes, and improve your shopping experience.

2. Biblical Counseling Subscribers (Subscription-Based Services):

·       For counseling subscribers, your data includes session notes, communications with your counselor, subscription records, and other related information. We retain this data for up to 10 years after your last counseling session or communication.

·       This extended retention is necessary to ensure continuity of care should you resume counseling, fulfill regulatory and ethical requirements for counseling record keeping, and protect the integrity of our faith-based counseling services.

Data Erasure Requests

How to request erasure:

·       You may request the deletion of your personal information at any time by logging into your LOL with Christ account and navigating to My Account > Personal Information, where you will find an option to initiate a full account and data erasure request.

·       If you cannot access your account or need additional support, please contact us directly at info@lolwithchrist.com.

What happens after a request:

·       For general non-clinical data (such as purchase history, account details, and communication unrelated to counseling), we will complete the data erasure within 24 hours of your request.

·       Clinical counseling data, which includes session notes, message logs with your counselor, and other sensitive counseling records, will be retained for the full 10-year period mandated by legal and ethical standards before erasure.

·       Certain data may remain on backup systems or archives for a limited time in accordance with our data backup policies but will not be used for active processing.

Limitations to Erasure

We are required by law and professional standards to retain certain information and may be unable to comply with erasure requests for the following reasons:

·       Legal and regulatory obligations: Tax laws, accounting standards, and counseling regulations require retention of specific data for defined periods.

·       Business integrity: Data necessary to investigate and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our terms of service.

·       Ongoing disputes or investigations: Data relevant to resolving complaints or legal proceedings.

·       Counseling records: To comply with ethical counseling practice standards and protect your well-being, counseling records are retained for the full statutory period.

If we cannot honor your erasure request, we will notify you promptly, explaining the reasons and outlining the safeguards we employ to protect your data.

Your Rights to Access and Export Your Data

You have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, commonly called a data export or data portability request. This allows you to review your information, transfer it to another service, or keep it for your records.

Your export will include:

·       Account details, profile information, and contact data

·       Order history and payment records for product purchases

·       Counseling session summaries, messages exchanged with your counselor, journal entries, and any worksheets or devotionals accessed through your subscription

·       Communications and support requests made through our platform

Data Access, Export, and Erasure Requests
At LOL with Christ, we are committed to respecting your privacy and complying with applicable data protection laws such as the GDPR and CCPA. While Shopify does not provide a built-in feature for customers to directly export their personal data from our online store, you have the right to access, request a copy of, or ask for the deletion of your personal information that we hold. If you wish to exercise any of these rights, please contact us directly at info@lolwithchrist.com with your request. Upon verifying your identity, we will respond promptly—typically within 30 days—with the requested information or take appropriate action to delete your data, unless retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes. We strive to handle all data requests transparently and securely to ensure your trust and compliance with privacy regulations.

Business Data Retention

We may collect information through business-related communications such as newsletter subscriptions, inquiries, and promotions. This data will be retained only as long as necessary to serve those purposes and deleted upon request or after a reasonable period of inactivity.

How We Protect Your Data

During the retention period, we maintain strict security protocols to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. We continuously review and update our data protection measures in accordance with industry best practices and legal requirements.

Section 4

Security and Anonymity

How do we keep your data secure?
At LOL with Christ, your privacy and data security are our top priorities. We follow industry standards and best practices to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. While no internet-based service is completely risk-free, we take extensive measures to safeguard your data through secure infrastructure, encryption, and ongoing security monitoring.

Our online store runs on Shopify, which provides a secure and PCI-compliant platform for payment processing and data storage. We also use trusted cloud providers that follow stringent security protocols.

For counseling services, we utilize encrypted communication channels to protect your messages, appointment details, and personal information. Our systems employ:

·       256-bit encryption on all counseling communications, including chat, video, and call sessions.

·       Secure servers hosted on reliable, certified cloud providers to ensure data availability and safety.

·       SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption across our website and platform to protect data transmitted between your browser and our servers.

·       Encrypted and scrambled databases, making data unreadable if improperly accessed.

·       Ongoing security monitoring by our dedicated security team to identify and respond to potential threats 24/7.

Your role in security:
Please be cautious with phishing attempts or suspicious emails. We will never ask you to provide login credentials or payment information through unsecured or unsolicited communications. Always verify the source before sharing sensitive information. Additionally, be mindful of links to external websites from our platform, as we do not control their security or privacy policies.

Can I remain anonymous?
When you create an account with LOL with Christ for counseling subscriptions, you may choose any name or nickname as your identifier on our platform. You will need to provide an email address for account verification and communication purposes. You may use an email address that does not include your real name if you prefer, but be aware that email addresses can still be considered personal data under some privacy laws.

For counseling sessions, we may request additional contact information for emergency purposes, such as if your counselor believes you or someone else may be in immediate danger. We handle such information with the utmost confidentiality and care.

Privacy limits online:
While we strive to limit the personal information you must provide, true anonymity on the internet is difficult to guarantee. We encourage you to review our full Privacy Policy sections on data processing, location data, cookies, and tracking controls to better understand how your data is handled and how you can limit data collection.

Who can access my counseling communications?
Only you and your assigned counselor can view your messages, journal entries, and submitted worksheets. Licensed counselors affiliated with our team may review communications to ensure quality and address any concerns you raise. Our internal Trust & Safety and Legal teams may also review specific accounts if there is a suspicion of legal or security issues.

We never share your counseling messages or session details with third parties without your explicit consent. Sessions are not recorded unless you expressly agree.

What about children’s data?
Our services and online store are not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under 13. If we learn that personal information has been collected from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will promptly delete that information.
